MP Niki Ashton Sends letter of Concern About Keeyask Construction Site

Our MP Niki Ashton recently sent a letter of concern to Manitobas Chief Medical Officer with concerns about the Keeyask construction site during the COVID 19 epidemic.

According to the letter Manitoba Hydro agreed to take drastic measures last
month to prohibit travel into the camp to keep people safe, but on April 19th
workers and partner first nations were informed that ten new cooks would be
coming to the keeyask camp creating concern from camp workers and First Nations that recognized hydros previous efforts.

Ashtons letter also stated that mental health is already an issue in the camp
and the entry of new staff is creating instability and that hydro has not yet proposed a plan for their workers to leave or return to the camp, and there is news of infections in camps and mines in Northern regions and our region can’t afford to risk having workers getting sick. This is why calls for temporary shutdowns should be respected.
