Niki Ashton released her latest MP report on the COVID 19 pandemic, and the first two confirmed cases of the virus in Northern Manitoba.
Ashton’s report stated that due to limited testing in our region, we can’t be sure if there are other cases of the virus in the north.
The report also said that people trying to get testing in Flin Flon is of particular concern right now, as people that were told to get tested were then refused at the testing site.
Ashton claims a woman in Flin Flon who had first known case of the virus in the north had to wait six days to receive test results, even when she showed symptoms.
Public Health reports there is no longer a backlog at the testing lab and turnaround time is within 24 to 48 hours after the tests arrive at the lab.
She goes on to say that she believes that the lesson from throughout the world is that intensive targeted testing is critical to preventing the spread of the virus.
