Opaskwayak Cree Nation Declares a State of Emergency

Opaskwayak Cree Nation has declared a state of emergency in response to the COVID 19 epidemic. According to a statement OCN wants to keep those in the elder and disabilities care home safe, and the community has severe overcrowding of homes making self isolation more difficult.

Chief Christian Sinclair wants to assure members that they are doing the best they can to address this crisis with all resources available.

Our region is considered a low risk area for COVID 19 and as of now no cases of the virus have been reported in Northern Manitoba. The virus has already made its way to Northern Saskatchewan meaning there is still a possibility that it could reach our region.

The Otineka Mall will remain open for members to purchase supplies though some stores will be closed but public gathering at the mall will not be permitted during this time and the food court sitting area will also be closed. Food Court vendors will remain open for take out orders  only and Scotiabank will be open on reduced hours 10AM to 3PM.
