Niki Ashton Continues to Pressure the Government to Ensure First nations Are Safe from the Corona Virus

Our MP Niki Ashton spoke in the House of Commons recently about the potentially negative impact that COVID 19 could have on First Nation’s communities and has put pressure on the government to do something about it.

Ashton says First Nations Communities like those in the Island Lake Region don’t have running water, a hospital, nowhere to self isolate and get treatment, and overcrowded houses, and Ashton believes that the Government is using First World responses for a third world reality. She says these communities need urgent action before the winter road season ends.

When Ashton asked what the Government will do to take the COVID 19 epidemic seriously when it comes to first nations communities Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller said In light of the COVID 19 Virus they will be providing temporary isolation facilities and additional health staff for communities as needed.
