Niki Ashton Address Potential Crisis of Corona Virus on Indigenous Peoples

MP Niki Ashton addressed the possibility that an outbreak of the Corona Virus could have a negative impact on indigenous communities.

The government advises regular hand washing and self isolation to prevent the spread of the virus, but Ashton believes that these measures are not possible when many indigenous communities still lack clean drinking water and many people share a single house in these communities.

When Ashton asked how the Governments Corona Virus committee is working to support indigenous peoples Marc Miller the Minister of Indigenous Services stated that the Liberal Government invested 79 Million Dollars over five years to prepare for health emergencies.

He acknowledges that First Nations and Inuit are more susceptible and more vulnerable to the Corona virus and they are ready to act.
