Opaskwayak Cree Nation to make their own Child and Family Services Laws and Strategies

With Bill C-92 becoming law on January 1st of this year this means that that the jurisdiction of Child and Family Services will be given to First Nations communities.

First Nations have one year to create their own laws and strategies that they feel will meet the well being of their children.

OCN Chief Christian Sinclair believes that when it comes to protecting and looking out for the wellbeing of OCN’s children it’s up to them to use Cree traditions and laws adding that if they are to succeed as a nation, it’s up to them to do things themselves.

First Nations communities have a year to create their own child welfare laws and strategies.
