Following their recent trip to Austin, Texas for the Fully Charged electric vehicle trade show, the Winter Weather Testing Committee’s Volker Beckmann and Deputy Mayor Les Ellsworth spoke to Arctic Radio about the event.

Beckmann explains that when he heard about the trade show a few months ago, he felt it was important that Thompson be represented in some way to garner interest in the location.

Deputy Mayor Les Ellsworth, who is also a member of the Community Futures North Central Development Committee, says the people they spoke to at the event showed interest in Thompson.

The group emphasised that there are many advantages for vehicle companies testing in Thompson aside from the cold weather, including the low Manitoba Hydro Rates and our supply of nickel for lithium batteries that power EVs.
