Opaskwayak Cree Nation Chief Christian Sinclair spoke to Arctic Radio to give an update on the community.
OCN is now planning to conduct a Wellness index study incorporated with their comprehensive community plan with a goal of feeding their long term budgeting process.
With this study it will help the community to decide where to put their funding. OCN members will be able to vote on the comprehensive community plan on February 29th at the Veterans Hall.
OCN has also been working towards bringing back their traditional language and Sinclair says important to preserve their language because it helps to define who they are.
One of the ways they are working towards bringing back their language is with a Cree Sentence of the day.
During their council meetings an elder will say the Cree sentence of the day and they have another council member recite the same sentence without making a mistake.
You can learn how to speak basic words in OCN’s traditional language by downloading the Opaskwayak Cree Dictionary app on your smart phone.
