Ice Safety Reminder

With the recent incident on Lake Winnipeg this past weekend where five trucks fell through the ice, Lifesaving Society Manitoba is reminding people to exercise caution when traveling across it.

The organization’s Water Smart Coordinator Doctor Christopher Love says the ideal ice to travel on is what is called new, clear, hard ice; which forms a solid sheet of ice when there’s a consistent period of cold weather with no precipitation.

People should plan ahead in case your vehicle falls though the ice and into cold water.
