With the news that British Columbia passed a bill that would implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Arctic Radio News Reached out to the Provincial Government to find out if the province would implement the same legislation
According to a statement provided by a Provincial Spokesperson
The Province of Manitoba remains committed to collaborating with indigenous peoples to advance shared interests and promote reconciliation but the statement did not make it clear whether or not Manitoba will pass a law that would implement the UN declaration the same way British Columbia did.
The Declaration states that First Nations have a right to self determination as well as informed consent with projects on their lands.
