Selkirk RCMP Investigate a Fatal Pedestrian Collision Involving a Man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation

Last Night, The Selkirk RCMP responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 9.

The investigation has determined that an SUV driver heading south noticed a pedestrian in dark clouting standing in the middle of the highway; the driver tried to avoid a collision with the pedestrian but was unsuccessful.

A second vehicle travelling north was unable to stop in time and also collided with the pedestrian.

Both drivers stopped at the scene and called 911 and the pedestrian was sent to the hospital where he succumb to his injuries.

The victim was identified as a 22 year old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation and alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
