The Churchill Region Economic Development Fund Management Committee will meet in Churchill Tomorrow to assess the latest applications to the fund and review the progress of existing projects.
The 7.3 million dollar fund was provided by the Government of Canada as a response to the economic instability facing Churchill and the surrounding region following the closure of the Port of Churchill and reduced rail service.
Much of the funding has been used for things like transportation, short term employment creation, infrastructure, food security, and tourism
The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation Region has been awarded with $634,000 and applications are still being accepted from non profit and for profit groups for projects that will support Churchill region communities to diversify their economies.
