Niki Ashton Continues the Fight for Single Payer Pharmacare

Last week during question period, MP Niki Ashton called on the liberals to commit to single payer pharamacare. Ashton says that people in our north and across Canada have been forced to make impossible choices because of the high cost of medication and that it’s inconceivable that in 2019 people have to choose between buying food and medication.

When she asked if the Liberal government would implement universal comprehensive public pharmacare Minister of Health Ginette Pititpas Taylor responded to Ashton saying our government is absolutely committed to making sure every Canadian has access to a national phramacare program and the work is underway.

35 million dollars was put towards the creation of a Canadian drug agency and a billion dollars towards the situation of rare deceases and the government will continue to work with provinces and territories, indigenous leaders and the health care sector to ensure that pharmacare becomes a reality for all Canadians.

The NDPs recently announced that their health care plan involves a universal public pharmacare program.
