The Kelsey School Divisions Monday night board meeting gave the public one last opportunity to look at the school boards budget draft that has been developed for the last couple of months.
Chair Vaughn Wadeluis says that they set aside thirty thousand dollars for a possible study of the drainage problem at Margret Barbour Colligate and Scott Bateman Middle School on Wadeluis Drive. They also decided to remove the lunch fees from the early year’s school and they are putting in eighteen thousand dollars to subsidize the Winton pool.
He added that one of the biggest difficulties is that the provincial government has started to claw back a number grants which means in order for the school board to meet the commitment of a balanced budget they need to reduce staff.
The school board debated on whether they should use their special levy to raise some funds to offset some of the provincial claw backs but they decided against it.
The final budget will be approved at the next board meeting on March 11th before being sent to the provincial government.
