The Pas Citizens on Patrol Begins Speedwatch Program for 2018

The Pas Citizens on Patrol Program began their annual Speedwatch program Yesterday. The Speedwatch program was started a number of years ago by Manitoba Public Insurance as a road safety initiative.

The C.O.P.P records the speed of every vehicle that goes by and If they find a vehicle traveling 20 or more kilometres over the speed limit they get the license plate number and make and model of the vehicle and report it to the RCMP. The C.O.P.P will then send a report to Manitoba Public Insurance from the patrol so that MPI can use the statistics to set up programs for road safety.

The C.O.P.P set up near the Metis Hall on the highway yesterday but they were forced to pack up early due to strong winds. Fortunately they did not record any vehicles traveling 20 or more kilometres over the posted speed limit.

The speedwatch program will continue to run from now until November 1st.
