Last week, The Pas MLA Amanda Lathlin asked a few questions at the Manitoba legislature during question period regarding issues with Northern Airports. Lathlin says the current government has cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from the northern airports in the last budget and that they are now trying to download responsibility for Northern airports to local communities and councils and she asked who the minister consulted with prior to making the decision to divest itself in the responsibility of Northern Airports. Ron Schulur the minister of infrastructure responded by saying that they will continue to work with the North to help them grow and have them prosper.

Lathlin says Northern Airports provide essential services to many remote and isolated communities and they are the link to Manitoba’s health care system and they require serious investment to remain viable. When she asked if the government would offer any financial support of its downloads responsibility for Northern Airports. Minister Schuler said that they will continue to meet with people of the North and ask what they would like to see so that Northern Manitoba can grow vibrant and strong.
