2017 Manitoba Road Fatalities Second Lowest in 35 Years

According to Manitoba Public Insurance, 73 people were killed in 65 fatal collisions last year. 2017 was one of the safest years on Manitoba public roadways since 1982 based on a preliminary analysis.

Ward Keith, the vice president of Business Development and Communications for MPI stated in a press release that the fact that 73 lives were lost is a stark reminder that much work still needs to be done to change the driving behavior within our province.

MPI has a few safety tips for safe driving, Have a plan before you go out partying or if you are planning to consume drugs or alcohol and never get into a vehicle with a driver that is intoxicated and do not drive if you have consumed drugs or alcohol.

Be aware of the posted speed limit and drive according to road and weather conditions, always wear your seatbelt whether you are driver or a passenger, and never use your phone while driving. Always pull your vehicle to safe area to answer texts or phone calls.
