Amanda Lathlin Addresses Manitoba Legislative Assembly on Ongoing Railway Issues

The Pas MLA Amanda Lathlin recently asked the Provincial Minister for Growth Enterprise and Trade during question period how many people were laid off at Omnitrax and if the Government received a notice from Omnitrax that they were planning to lay off employees.

According to the Provincial law, companies that plan to lay off 50 or more employees are required to provide the Government with ten weeks notice.

The Minster stated that 14,600 new jobs year over year have been created in Manitoba and he felt that the reason for the rail service issues was due to 20 million dollars given to Omnitrax by the previous government quote “disappeared”. He concluded by saying “We continue to work with the people in the North to create good paying jobs, and the north would benefit under our Government”.
