Churchill Mayor Responds to Hudson Bay Rail Closure

Churchill Manitoba’s Mayor Michael Spence said in a press conference yesterday that the closure of the Hudson Bay Railway is an unprecedented event for Canada’s only arctic seaport, the Kivillaq region and the Town of Churchill.

The Community is calling on all orders of government to ensure the work to repair and reopen the rail line begins immediately.

The town of Churchill wants to ensure all Canadians that the community is still open for business and that all governments must continue to support the town during the height of tourist season and the Canada 150 celebrations.

It could take up to five weeks for Omnitrax to assess the flood damage to the rail line something that mayor Pence thinks is unacceptable.
