A day to bring attention to missing and murdered indigenous woman

Yesterday, the Manitoba Legislative Assembly voted unanimously to set aside October 4th each year as an official day to honour and bring attention to Manitoba’s missing and murdered indigenous woman and girls.

NDP MLA Nahanni Fontaine has thanked all members of the assembly that supported Bill 221 to honour missing and murdered indigenous woman and their families, saying that families have long fought to draw attention to the crisis.

Since 1980 more than 1,200 indigenous woman and girls have been reported murdered or missing across the country.
