Correcting youth homelessness across the province is the goal of a new group that’s launching an action plan today. The “Winnipeg Plan to End Youth Homelessness” is a group created to prevent and end youth homelessness by implementing a community based strategy that ensures youth and their families have what they need to thrive. The group is launching their action plan in Winnipeg today and will target all youth across the north as well. Winnipeg is unique in Canada for the high proportion of Indigenous youth experiencing homelessness. They say it’s related to resource distribution and colonialism. Young people arrive in Winnipeg from remote communities for opportunity, employment and education and too often, they become homeless.
