Many questions have been raised on the status of The Pas Fire Department in the past few months after a series of layoffs and staffing changes came to light. Greg Zimmerman, Fire Chief released a statement on these concerns, which outlined his beliefs when it comes to issues such as Training, Staffing, Equipment and Budget. One of the biggest issues it seems is budget. Staff in The Pas have 2 full time employee’s, answer around 160 calls a year, provide rescue services outside of municipal boundaries, and have a meager annual operating budget of $335 thousand dollars, much less than surrounding areas who respond to less calls and do not leave municipal boundaries.
