Farmers call on CWB

Farmers from the Swan River area are hoping to be a strong voice in returning the Canadian Wheat Board to Canadian hands. Last week 50 farmers from the Swan Valley area of Manitoba and Saskatchewan voted unanimously to pass a resolution calling for the re-establishment of the Canadian wheat board, and single-desk selling of grain in Western Canada. According to a study done by the University of Saskatchewan farmers lost about 6.5 billion dollars the past two years. Last year the Harper government transferred the remaining assets of the Wheat Board to a company jointly owned by the government of Saudi Arabia and Bunge, one of the worlds largest private grain traders.
