Blizz Break Losing Streak, Split Series with Titans

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard not only split their weekend series against the Neepawa Titans — they also snapped a seven-game losing streak that dated back to early December.

Friday’s game saw the Blizz control much of the action from start to finish. Kanye Huang opened the scoring in the first period with his lone goal. Early in the second, Trystyn Sidor and Huang struck again with back-to-back goals to give Northern Manitoba a commanding 3–0 lead.

Neepawa’s Dawson Andries cut the deficit to two by scoring his team's first goal of the game, but Lucas Lorenz and Justin Whitrow quickly restored the advantage with goals of their own, pushing the Blizzard lead to 5–1. Ryder Heaphy added another for the Titans before Lorenz scored his second of the night to close out the second period with the Blizz ahead 6–2.

Neepawa mounted a furious push in the third, scoring three unanswered goals, but Northern Manitoba held on to secure a 6–5 victory.

Saturday told a different story. Neepawa jumped out to a fast start, scoring twice in the opening period to lead 2–0. The Pas product Isaac Tomchak got the Blizzard back on the board in the second, but Jack Clark restored Neepawa’s two-goal cushion shortly after. Trystyn Sidor replied quickly to make it 3–2, but the Titans then found another gear, tallying four straight goals to take a 7–2 lead into the third.

Sidor and Dom Rattai added late goals for Northern Manitoba, but the comeback fell short as Neepawa closed out a 7–4 win.

The Blizzard now turn their attention to a special 12:00 p.m. matinee game this Wednesday against the Swan Valley Stampeders. 102.9 CJAR will be on site to broadcast the contest in its entirety.
