OCN Storm Keep Rolling; Blizzard Return to Action in Crucial Matchup Tonight

The OCN Storm kept up their winning ways this past weekend, going 2-0 against the Cross Lake Islanders. Both games were tight, competitive, and needed overtime to decide a winner.

Saturday’s contest saw OCN get off to a fast start in the first period with goals from both Justin Eetuk and Cedrick Puffalt. Cross Lake’s Trace Sinclair responded with one of his own, making it 2–1 heading into the second. Cameron Sutherland tied things up just before the halfway point of the middle frame, and in the third, both teams found the back of the net once more, sending the game to overtime tied 4–4. Fortunately for OCN, Justin Eetuk answered the bell in the extra frame and buried his second of the night, giving the Storm their fourth straight win.

Sunday’s game was no different. Much like Saturday’s tilt, the Storm exploded out of the gate, scoring four goals in the opening period. Cross Lake managed to get two back, narrowing the tally to 4–2 heading into the second. The middle period featured a flurry of offence, with the two squads combining for five goals, making it 6–5 OCN.

Cross Lake needed just one more to not only tie things up but also inch closer to their first win of the season. Takeo Ross stepped up and delivered, tying the game with less than ten minutes remaining in regulation. Unfortunately for the Islanders, it was once again Justin Eetuk who lit the lamp in overtime, securing OCN’s fifth win in a row.

The OCN Storm are now off until the KJHL Showcase, which takes place in Thompson on December 13th and 14th. They’ll face the Islanders and the Juniors in back-to-back games at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena.

In other hockey news, the Northern Manitoba Blizzard are back in action tonight as they take on the Swan Valley Stampeders for the first time this season. Both teams are fighting for valuable points heading into the Christmas break and are looking to snap their respective losing streaks. Puck drop is at 7:00 P.M., with 102.9 CJAR’s Funky Threadz pregame show set to begin at around 6:45 P.M.
