Storm Split Weekend Series with Cross Lake Islanders

The OCN Storm split their weekend series after playing back-to-back games against the Cross Lake Islanders this past Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s game saw the Islanders put up a total of six goals, three of which came after Jacey Melnyk’s first-period tally, making it 3–1 heading into the second. The Islanders opened the middle frame with two more goals — both scored by Cross Lake’s Kaeden Trapper. Shortly after, Cedrick Puffalt buried two goals for OCN, followed by another from Jacey Melnyk to make things interesting heading into the third. However, the Storm were unable to complete the comeback and fell 6–4 after the Islanders sealed it with an empty-netter late in the game.

Sunday’s matchup told a different story, as the Storm struck twice in the first period to take a 2–0 lead. Jayden Blacksmith cut the deficit in half with his lone goal in the second and later tied things up early in the third. After a back-and-forth final frame, the Storm responded with two more goals to secure a 4–2 victory.

The Storm are back in action this upcoming weekend on the road as they make the trek to Peguis First Nation to take on the Juniors.
