After a two-game doubleheader this past weekend against the red-hot, still undefeated Selkirk Steelers, the Blizz managed to pick up a point and will now look ahead to this weekend’s opponent — the Portage Terriers.
Both games were low-scoring, defensive battles from start to finish. Friday’s matchup saw no goals scored until the second period, when Steelers defenseman Maden Simard netted his first goal of the season. Just before the ten-minute mark in the third, newcomer Trystyn Sidor buried one on the power play to tie things up and ultimately send the game to overtime. Selkirk would eventually come out on top late in the first overtime period with Wyatt Witham’s fifth goal of the season, making the final 2–1.
Saturday’s game saw a total of three goals scored in the first period. Justin Whitrow notched his second goal of the season to give the Blizz an early lead. Shortly after, Remy Hlady and Jayton Frederick scored back-to-back goals to make it 2–1 for Selkirk by the end of the first. After a quiet second period, the fourth and final goal came from Selkirk’s Kayden Turner on an empty net, sealing the 3–1 victory.
The Blizz will once again play back-to-back games this weekend against Portage, with puck drop set for 7:00 P.M. both Friday and Saturday.
