The Northern Manitoba Blizzard not only won scrappily last night against the SIJHL's Kam River Fighting Walleye, but they also secured a spot in the Centennial Cup quarterfinals.
The first goal came from Kam River's Sam Sargent a little bit past the halfway point in the second period. However, after Walleye forward Carter Poddubny took a goalie interference penalty at the 19-minute mark, Quincy Supprien and the Blizzard power play unit capitalized, scoring a goal to end the second period tied.
Just under a minute into the third, Poddubny lit the lamp to give Kam River its second lead of the game. Shortly after, Benson Hirst tied things up once more with a quick response. Brett Ward would go on to score the game-winning goal not long after Hirst's tally, sealing a 3–2 win for the Blizzard.
The Blizz will play their final preliminary game against the Grande Prairie Storm tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. The quarterfinals begin Friday.
