The Northern Manitoba Blizzard managed to pick up a single point last night after falling in a thrilling, back-and-forth battle against the Trenton Golden Hawks in overtime.
After a quiet opening period, the tempo ramped up in the second, with both championship squads combining for six goals. Trenton’s Joey Brehmer and Nathan Taylor struck back-to-back within the first eight minutes to give the Hawks an early cushion.
Just past the midway point, Miguel Bouvier and the Blizz penalty kill unit responded with a short-handed tally. But the Golden Hawks answered almost immediately—still on the power play—when Trevor McDowell found the back of the net to make it 3–1.
The Blizzard fought back to even things up before the period closed. Tyler Bernier cashed in just after the 16-minute mark, and Esteban Cinq-Mars added a power-play goal with under 90 seconds remaining to tie it 3–3 heading into the third.
Corbin Roach lit the lamp early in the final frame to restore Trenton’s lead. But with just over a minute left in regulation, Bernier stepped up once more, burying his second of the night to force overtime.
In the extra frame, it was Roach again, securing the win for Trenton with his second goal of the game, four minutes into the sudden-death period. Make the final score 5-4, Trenton.
