The Northern Manitoba Blizzard has officially earned a spot in the Turnbull Cup Finals after defeating the reigning champion Winkler Flyers in the first overtime period of Game Four.
Marlen Edwards recorded his fourth postseason goal just past the midway point of the second period to give the Blizz a one-goal lead. Winkler, however, tied things up late in the third to send the game to overtime.
The Blizz picked up a few penalties in the extra frame and had to rely heavily on goaltender Taye Timmerman and their penalty kill unit to stay alive. Then, after a bobbled exchange by Winkler in the Blizzard’s zone, it was none other than Quincy Supprien who stole the puck and scored a short-handed breakaway goal to seal the win.
The Blizzard’s opponent has yet to be determined. The Dauphin Kings currently hold a 2–1 series lead over Portage, with Game Four set for tonight in Dauphin.
