The Northern Manitoba Blizzard are now up two games in their seven-game semifinal series against the reigning MJHL champions in the Winkler Flyers.
In the first period of Game 1, Kelton Kellerman and Brett Ward fired in back-to-back goals to give the Blizz a two-goal lead. Not long after Ward's power-play goal, Andrew Morton and the Flyers' penalty kill unit capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity, notching a marker to round out the first.
In the opening minutes of the second, Keenan McNeill found the back of the net, setting the score at 3-1 for the Blizz. A few moments later, Brady Craik and the Winkler power play unit orchestrated a strike to narrow the gap to one. The third period eventually arrived, and Hugo Larkin sealed the win with an empty-netter, setting the final score at 4-2.
Game 2 the next day was just as competitive for both sides. After a quiet first period, Keenan McNeill, the Blizz power play unit, and Cael Primanti scored two unanswered goals. Team NorMan carried that 2-0 lead into the third. With just under two and a half minutes left, Brody Beauchemin cut the lead to one, but it was too late to change the outcome. Like in Game 1, the Blizz sealed the win with an empty-netter, this time from Quincy Supprien.
In other MJHL postseason news, the Dauphin Kings are also up two games on the Portage Terriers.
The Blizz are back home this Wednesday and Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. On both nights, our Blizz broadcast will start after bingo. Advance tickets can be purchased with cash at FunkyThreadz.
