Both varsity basketball teams at MBCI were involved in two different tournaments this past weekend. The varsity boys travelled to Neepawa to partake in their basketball tourney; in the opening round, they thumped Gilbert Plains/Grandview (Co-Op) 97-43. In the semis, the Spartans would lose 71-68 in a close-fought match against the eventual tournament champion Souris Sabres. MBCI would square off against the Virden Bears for the third-place decider and won 80-57. The varsity girls played their weekend basketball matchups at Warren Collegiate Institute. In the preliminary round, the Rosenort Redhawks had the upper hand on the Spartans; they were, however, able to regain momentum against the Grant Park Pirates with a decisive 63-15 win. In the consolation game, the Spartans would face none other than the Hapnot Kopper Kweens and secured a 63-27 victory.
