Last week, our MP Niki Ashton stood in the House of Commons to urge the federal government to work with first nations communities in Northern Manitoba to build all weather roads so these communities can be easily accessed year round and allow for essential and lifesaving supplies to be delivered.
Many Northern First Nations communities rely on ice roads for a few weeks during the winter for deliveries but due to climate change these roads are disappearing.
Ashton stated that there are 18 communities in our region that depend on the ice road system.
