Local MP Niki Ashton held a press conference on Friday to call on the Federal Liberals to deliver the desperately needed health care services in the Island Lake region.

The communities of St Theresa Point, Garden Hill, Wasagamack, and Red Sucker Lake have a population of about 14,000 and the nursing stations have failed to meet the demands of the region. The lack of services is forcing people to move away from home in order to survive.

Ashton added that the Federal Government needs to call a public inquiry into the inadequate heath care received by First Nation’s peoples and they need to fully fund the health services that they need.
