Gary Hopper The Funding Coordinator for the Northern Gateway Community Chaplaincy was present at The Town of The Pas’s Council meeting on Monday night to discuss the towns decision not to fund the NGCC this year due to economic circumstances.
The NGCC is a program that was started back in the year 2000 and they help to provide resources and rehabilitation for the homeless population and they received a letter from the town that they could not provide funding for them this year.
The NGCC has received funding from outside resources and The RM of Kelsey is planning to provide them with 15 thousand dollars. The town of The Pas is the main source of funding for the program providing 20 thousand dollars each year and If the town does not fund the NGCC the future of the program will be in jeopardy.
Many residents came to talk to council about their interactions with the homeless here in The Pas and to show their support for the NGCC.
Hopper is hoping that the town will reconsider their decision not to fund the program.
