Bernadette Jordan the MP for South Shore St Margrets Nova Scotia and Minister of Rural Economic Development spoke to Arctic Radio News last week about a rural economic development plan that she is working on.
The rural economic development plan will look at providing things like high speed internet and better cell service in rural areas since there are businesses that rely on the use of the internet and cell service is needed for those involved in dangerous work and for making emergency calls. Jordan also hopes to provide things like affordable housing and reliable transportation to rural Canada as well.
Jordan stated the best way to determine what rural communities need is to visit them in person and she has already met with The Town of the Pas, OCN, and the RM of Kelsey and she plans to visit more rural communities across Canada.
She hopes to have the plan completed by June of this year.
