Opaskwayak Cree Nation held a community meeting on Wednesday evening at the Kikiwak Inn.
Chief Christian Sinclair said quote OCN is moving forward in a new direction strengthening their governance and becoming masters of their own house as Opaskwayak Cree Nation and they’re prioritizing what their needs are as it relates to social and infrastructure needs.
He added that OCN is doing really well financially and one of the goals is to make Cree the official language of OCN by 2025. He also praised the work that the bear clan patrol has done to make the community safe.
During the meeting they gave OCN members updates on their aerospace project, the lagoon upgrade, the sale of the OCN Blizzard, Housing, and other community projects.
Housing is the number one priority and OCN is conducting a new housing strategy and pursuing the construction of approximately 34- 50 houses this fiscal year.
