Yesterday, MP Niki Ashton and other NDP MP’s addressed the federal liberal parties’ inaction on mould in first nation’s homes. Ashton says that while the prime minster talks about reconciliation his government’s actions show otherwise and that Justin Trudeau must act now to address the unacceptable living conditions.

According to MP Georgina Jolibois mould has become the norm for a lot of people in the north and people have stopped reporting mould in their homes because they know nothing will be done. She also addressed the fact that houses in the North are built to the standard of homes in the south and are not suitable for the climate of the north.

MP Romeo Saganash pointed out that Prime Minster Trudeau has already acknowledged the right to adequate housing and he must understand that Canada is obligated to provide housing to vulnerable or marginalized people and that the Liberal Government must stop discriminating indigenous peoples.
