Amanda Lathlin Addresses Funding Issues with the Northern Patient Transportation Program

During question period last week MLA Amanda Lathlin brought up funding concerns with the Northern Patient Transportation Program. She stated that the Minister of Health put out false information on the record when he said there have been changes to the Northern Patient Transportation Program and she asked if he would retract the false information that he put on record and reverse the cuts.

Minister of Health, Seniors, and Active Living Cameron Friesen responded by stating that the Northern Patient Transportation program is essential for Northern Manitobans to be able to reach appointments in the South on a semi urgent and non urgent basis and that there are rules in place for the program but some rules failed to be enforced.

He concluded his statement by saying the Northern Health Authority is once again enforcing those rules to make sure the program stays strong for Manitobans.

According to Lathlin, over 1 million dollars for the Northern Patient Transportation Program was cut and this has forced the NRHA to reduce the number of people who get flights under the program.

She asked again when the government will reverse these cuts and minister Friesen responded by saying they are making progress but they are not there yet.
