Northern Manitoba Landmark Burns to a Total Loss

A northern Manitoba landmark is gone following a fire.

The Ponton Service Station, located at the intersection of highways six and 39, went up in flames Saturday after the fire spread from two trucks in the back parking lot.

The fire was contained to the building, and water bombers were used to battle the flames.

A spokesperson for Cross Lake First Nation, who owns the station, said that even though it’s heartbreaking, they will rebuild.

The spokesperson said that it shouldn’t be a problem getting to the next service station in the summer months, but that they quote better build something before the winter.
