Youth Traditional Camp On OCN

A Youth Traditional Camp was held at OCN’s Moose Park on July 20th. The camp was open to OCN members aged 8-17 and 14 children attended. The children learned how to make bannock bread, how to set up traps, fillet fish, and how to make fire. The goal of the camp was to encourage youth to learn traditional ways of life in a world of technology.

Organizer Kristen Burns would like to thank elder Louise Ballantyne for teaching the youth how to make bannock, Omar Constant for teaching the youth how to set up traps and how to fillet fish, the Opaskwayak Health Authority for sponsoring this event and the OCN Fire Department for being on site for safety measures.

Burns hopes to have Youth Traditional Camps every year.
