Last week, a public hearing was held regarding the proposed levy for police services in The Pas. The proposed police services levy would take policing costs out of the general budget and distribute them equally across the community. A lot of people came to the hearing to voice their opposition to the proposed levy.
Mayor Jim Scott says one of the main reasons behind the opposition was because residents that own a single family house didn’t think that it was fair that someone that owned an apartment building would pay the same fee.
Scott and enough councilors plan to defeat proposed levy at the next council meeting.
