MPI Calls October a "Disturbing Month" for Manitoba Road Ways

Manitoba Public Insurance is saying that October was a disturbing month for Manitoba’s Roadways. According to a news release 12,000 collision claims were reported and 12 people were killed in auto related collisions on public roadways. Collision counts were 8 times higher than October of last year.

Ward Keith from MPI says these trends are concerning and at this time of year it is really important to adjust driving behaviors as road and weather conditions fluctuate. Some of the tips MPI has for driving this winter include, being cautious when travelling on overpasses and bridges, and to give yourself five or ten extra minutes to get to your destination safely.

Other safety tips for driving in winter include. Keeping windshields clear of snow and ice and keeping washer fluid topped off, allowing yourself more time to stop as traction is reduced when roads are slippery, and to get winter tires if you do not have them.
