Amanda Lathlin Addresses Issues with Northern Railways During Question Period

The Pas MLA Amanda Lathlin recently addressed the ongoing issues with The Hudson Bay Railway during Question Period of The legislative assembly of Manitoba and she asked what the government is doing to restore full rail service to Northern Manitoba.

The Minster of Infrastructure responded by saying he appreciates Lathlins passion on the issue. He added that fuel has arrived in Churchill via tanker and he asked members opposite if they would join with them in pursuing that the federal government lives up to the obligations of the railway.

According to Lathlin, reduced rail service means fewer jobs and fewer people living in the North. She said she learned that the cost of gas in Churchill was going to go up by 30 percent and that workers have been laid off at HBR rail. She says the government needs to pressure Ommnitrax to restore rail service to Northern Manitoba.
