Province Invests in Sawmill Study

The Swampy Cree Tribal Council will be conducting a feasibility study regarding Tolko’s Sawmill Operations in The Pas thanks to the provincial government. The province will provide a onetime 35-thousand dollar grant which is half of the 70-thousand dollar cost of the study. Grand Chief Nelson Genaille of the Swampy Cree tribal Council said they are very pleased that this study can go forward. The Swampy Cree Tribal Council will engage a firm to undertake the feasibility study. The study will assess economic impacts, wood supply, logistical challenges and estimated costs of reopening Tolko’s sawmill operation in The Pas.
