RCMP training

Twelve new members of the RCMP are now certified Ice Rescue Technicians.

Every year the RCMP trains officers in the event of ever needing to save a life underneath cold icy lake waters. The new IRT’s spent last Thursday and Friday at Paint Lake diving into the ice waters as part of training. Some of the officers, wearing everyday clothing, entered the water without a dry suit in order to gain experience and understanding of what is required in order to protect others.

Through intense training, the RCMP officers are now properly prepared to initiate rescue systems as it pertains to ice emergencies. RCMP “D” Division has approximately 35 IRTs in the province, with the majority posted in Northern Manitoba.
